‘Heavy Metal’ Adds Cameron, Verbinksi, Snyder as Directors

Later today you’ll have the chance to read our full interview with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman, but I figured I’d whet your appetite by sharing the news that not only is the project on track with David Fincher behind the wheel, but that James Cameron, Zack Snyder and Gore Verbinski have all signed on to direct segments of Heavy Metal.



These are Eastman’s own words:

I’ve got breaking news that Fincher and James Cameron are going to be Co-Executive Producers on the film. Fincher will direct one. Cameron will direct one. Zack Snyder is going to direct one and Gore Verbinski is going to. Mark Osborne and Jack Black from Tenacious D are going to do a comedy segment for the film. Three other directors have agreed but we haven’t signed them, but they’re equally as jaw-dropping. So we’re on cloud nine to be working with such an amazing amount of talent.”

We’ve known for a bit that Verbinski and Snyder had been involved, but James Cameron’s involvement is news to me. A bit earlier is was reported that Mark Osborne (Kung Fu Panda) would also be directing a segment, but teaming up with Jack Black again could definitely be awesome.

This is incredible. “An amazing amount of talent,” is probably the only way I’d know how to describe that group of directors. Scoring James Cameron not only as an Executive Producer, but also as a director for one of the segments is a major win. Although, considering the subject matter, I could see how Cameron’s love of science fiction solidified his involvement.

I think I’m on cloud nine right now, too.

Battle: Los Angeles Adds Cast, Will Be ‘Black Hawk Down meets Alien’

Battle: Los Angeles, the alien invasion action flick that is about to begin shooting in Louisiana (not quite Los Angeles…) has added quite a few cast members, and on the eve of the shoot star Aaron Eckhart makes some promises about what sort of film we’re likely to see when it’s all said and done.

First up, THR reports that R&B singer-songwriter Ne-Yo has joined the cast. He’s perhaps the most high-profile addition, but quite a few others are also on board: Ramon Rodriguez, Taylor Handley, Cory Hardrict, Jadin Gould, Bryce Cass and Joey King also have joined the cast. They’ll be alongside big guns Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan and Michael Pena under the direction of Jonathan Liebesman.

And speaking to Sci-Fi Wire (among others) during the junket for Love Happens, Eckhart says “We’ve got a great shooter [Lukas Ettlin], and he’s going to do it like Black Hawk Down meets Alien. So it’s going to be real marine stuff. He’s going to film it in a very documentary style.” That’s a pretty tall order. That comparison, Black Hawk Down meets Alien, could (timeline aside) probably be applied to another movie…what was the name…oh, right. Aliens. Eckhart is confident, however. “It’s going to be no ordinary aliens movie, I guarantee you that,” he says. “It’s going to be outrageous. This movie’s going to be so great. I go out on a limb in saying that.”

Battle: Los Angeles has been gestating for a while, and “revolves around a Marine staff sergeant (Eckhart) and his new platoon’s battle against an alien invasion on the streets of Los Angeles. Eckhart plays a Marine staff sergeant while Rodriguez plays CPL Adriana Santos, a member of a radio battalion. Pena plays the father of a boy the Marines find along the way, and Moynahan plays a veterinarian.”

Some snuck PREDATORS pics have leaked onto the web!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some pictures from the Nimrod Antal directed, Robert Rodriguez-produced reboot/sequel PREDATORS. I've seen some things from this movie that would make your geek brain explode... it did mine, at least, but I have no idea when I can go into that in any detail.

A ton of snuck shots have leaked online and I imagine they'll disappear really damn quickly, but for those early risers this Saturday morning, here are a few stills courtesy of the forums of AVP Galaxy. There are a ton of pics on the boards (make sure to click here or on any of the pics below to see them all)and I've picked a few to post here. There might be some spoilery stuff there, but also some super cool shit, too.











Predators is an upcoming 2010 science fiction, action and horror film directed by Nimród Antal, starring Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Danny Trejo, Alice Braga and Derek Mears. The movie is a sequel to the 1987 classic action film Predator. Robert Rodriguez stated that he named the film "Predators" in relation to how the second film in the Alien franchise was called Aliens.

The film was written by Robert Rodriguez, Alex Litvak and Michael Finch. In 2009, 20th Century Fox studio executive, Alex Young, called Rodriguez to consider using his treatment to revive the individual Predator franchise. It was originally thought that Robert Rodriguez would direct, but on June 12, it was rumored that British director Neil Marshall was involved in directing the film. On July 1, 2009, Nimród Antal was officially signed on to take the director's chair. In an interview with MTV, Rodriguez expressed that he wanted his reboot to be the direct sequel to the original, ignoring the Alien versus Predator sequels.

Cast information was released only a few weeks before shooting began. The cast consists of Adrien Brody who plays a man who ends up inheriting the mantle of leader. Topher Grace plays an accountant-type whose unassuming facade masks a dangerous serial killer. Alice Braga plays a tough female killer. Mahershalalhashbaz Ali portrays a man not afraid to die. Walton Goggins presents a loose cannon of the group. Oleg Taktarov is a former Russian special ops agent. Danny Trejo plays a hardened warrior with twin uzis. Rodriguez stated that he would like to get Arnold Schwarzenegger in for a cameo role as an aged Dutch. On November 30, Antal defended his decision in choosing Brody for the lead role in an interview to promote his upcoming film, Armored, saying,"It was a challenge in finding a balance. I think when we cast Adrian, there were a lot of people going, ‘What?’ but at the same time, if we cast a Vin Diesel in that role or if we cast anyone who is Arnold-esque, we would have been attacked for doing that. So we decided early on to go in a very different direction as far as the casting process, but it turned out fantastic." He also states a point that average soldiers are wiry tough guys, not burly men like Arnold.

On December 18, 2009, Laurence Fishburne was reportedly cast for a role in Predators. On January 13, 2010, information on Fishburne's character, Noland, a man who survived for ten years on the alien planet by living in a cave, was revealed in an interview with Louis Ozawa Changchien, stating,"It's a really interesting role, quite different from Morpheus [from The Matrix].... a bit shady, crazy, surviving on his own, kind of a ratty character. I didn't know anything about his role, and we all went to see the rehearsal. It was quite a surprise." Changchien, who plays "Hanzo", also stated about his own character, "I guess he used to be a guy who can murder someone without a qualm, but by the time he arrives to the Hunting Camp, he'll no longer be that kind of person...Those things aren't explained in the script, but you'll get it when you see the movie."

Festival dokumentarnog rock filma – DORF '10 održati će se, po prvi put istovremeno, u 3 grada: od 4. do . ožujka 2010. u Gradskom kazalištu 'Joza Ivakić' u Vinkovcima, Dokukinu Croatia u Zagrebu, te Art-kinu Croatia u Rijeci. Na ovogodišnjem Festivalu bit će prikazan 21 dokumentarni glazbeni film, iz 8 zemalja.
Nakon 3 godine i velikog uspjeha festivala, ovogodišnji DORF nastavlja sa predstavljanjem najnovijih regionalnih i inozemnih dokumentarnih glazbenih filmova.
Osim filmova, u bogatom popratnom programu, posjetitelji će imati priliku vidjeti zanimljive stripove skupine Emisija emocija, izložbu fotografija portala Muzika.hr, brojne koncerte i promocije knjiga.
U svakom gradu i okolnim mjestima bit će organizirani i intro-događaji, o kojima ćemo uskoro izvijestiti.
Na otvorenju u Vinkovcima bit će prikazan film „Dr.Feelgood – Oil City Confidential“ legendarnog britanskog autora Juliena Templea, kao završni dio njegove trilogije o britanskom punku.
Od regionalnih filmova izdvajamo film o kultnoj novosadskoj grupi Boye – „Prvi pravi ženski zvuk“, autorice Brankice Drašković, te film „Astralis – institucija“, Igora Neljaka o pionirima hrvatskog rave pokreta. Posebno mjesto u programu na ovogodišnjem izdanju dobila je ekipa iz agilne „Transmeet TV“.
Filmovi o Vladi Divljanu, Tomislavu Golubanu, Metalcamp festivalu, Le Zboru ili Radio Študentu bit će mahom premijerno prikazani hrvatskoj publici, na zadovoljstvo velikog broja zainteresiranih ali i organizatora kojima je impresivan broj prijavljenih regionalnih filmova najbolja nagrada za do sada učinjeno.
Filmovi nizozemskog autora Davida Kleijwegta „Eternal Children“ o freak folk sceni sa protagonistima Antony & The Johnsons, Devendri Banhart i CocoRosie te „Low – You may need a murderer“, o istoimenom američkom bandu kao i tri filma Petera Braatza o Walkabouts, Damo Suzukiju i Sex Pistols predstavljaju pravu poslasticu za sve ljubitelje ovog žanra.
Neki filmovi biti će prikazani u sva 3 grada, a neke će imati ekskluzivnu priliku pogledati samo gosti u Rijeci, Zagrebu ili Vinkovcima.

Festival dokumentarnog rock filma - DORF '10 organizira Udruga ljubitelja filma 'Rare' iz Vinkovaca, u suradnji sa Restart iz Zagreba i udrugom Amandla iz Rijeke.

Uskoro : " Nemoguća misija 4 "

Filmska kompanija " Paramont pictures " javno je potvrdila da će se Tome Cruise pojavit u ulozi specijalnog agenta " Itan-a " i u četvrtom nastavku filmskog serijala " nemoguča misija " Kako prenosi američki časopis "Variety " Tom Cruise i "Paramanunt pictures " zakopali su ratne sjekire. Holivudski studio, vlasnik franšize "Nemoguća misija", jednostrano je prekinuo poslovne odnose s popularnim glumcem prije četiri godine zbog njegovog ponašanja u javnosti koje se smatralo neprihvatljivim.


Međutim, Tom Cruise je glumac koji donosi novac. Tri prva nastavka "Nemoguće misije", ostvarila su zaradu od preko 1,4 milijarde dolara. U "Paramaunt picturesu " dobro znaju da svaka zvijezda, bez obzira na njeno ponašanje, može biti rentabilna čak i kad snima film o potpuno iscrpljenim temama.
Suradnja s Cruiseom je obnovljena čime je riješen problem glavne uloge. Još uvijek se ne zna tko će režirati "Nemoguću misiju 4", navodi časopis "Variety" Tom Cruise je prije nekog vremena izjavio da bi u slučaju da dobije ulogu u četvrtom nastavku i njegova žena Katie Holmes mogla igra u filmu, i još ako dodamo da če on biti jedan od producenata. O tome se ipak još uvijek ništa ne zna sa sigurnošću, kao ni koji bi drugi glumci mogli biti pozvani za sudjelovanje u projektu.
