Sky Sports News understands Henk Ten Cate has been sacked as an assistant manager by Chelsea.

The Dutchman arrived at Stamford Bridge in October to join Avram Grant's backroom staff following the departure of Jose Mourinho.

However, after Grant was sacked by Chelsea last Saturday, there were suggestions that Ten Cate would also be on his way out of the club.

Ten Cate, though, revealed at the start of the week that he had been assured that he still had a role in West London, where he was under contract until 2010.

He told Voetbal International: "Half an hour before Chelsea made the message about Grant officially known, I was called by the chief executive Peter Kenyon.

"He informed me that the departure of Grant will not affect me. I'd rather go on that than all those newspaper reports.

"That appointment was long planned and therefore separate from recent developments.

"In January I had one such evaluation and then we said we would do again after the season. I have a contract until 2010."

But it would now appear that Ten Cate's time at Chelsea has run its course as the club look for Grant's replacement.

Luiz Felipe Scolari, Mark Hughes, Roberto Mancini and Sven Goran Eriksson are among the candidates to take over from Grant.

"I have a contract with Chelsea until 2010, so I am still a Chelsea player," the striker told skysports.com during a promotional campaign for his autobiography back in Ivory Coast.

"Mourinho is my friend and I am happy for him because he was missing coaching.

"He is a top coach but, like I said, my contract here runs until 2010."

Drogba, who was sent-off late on during the UEFA Champions League final with Manchester United for slapping Nemanja Vidic, also spoke of his disappointment at ending the 2007/08 season empty-handed.

"I am really disappointed with myself (for getting sent-off)," he added.

"I lost my head completely and I let the team down. I should not have reacted in that way.

"I let myself down, the Chelsea fans, my homeland - but that is life.

"I have now lost three finals. One Uefa Cup (with Marseille), an African Nations Cup and now the Champions League, but that is football.

"Hopefully I will win the next one."

Scolari još i dodaje da je njegova godišnja plaća od šest milijuna funti, što je 36 puta veći iznos od onoga koji prima Brown, opravdana, jer će cijelo vrijeme biti pod povećalom javnosti.

"To je krasan posao, no i vrlo odgovoran. Čini se kao da je moj posao važniji od premijerovog, jer o nogometu se više priče nego o politici, zdravstvu ili ekonomiji. Zbog toga se trenerski posao ne može nazvati laganim", tvrdi Scolari, koji ovih dana vodi Portugal na Europskom nogometnom prvenstvu.

Engleski mediji već se šale na račun Scolarijevih izjava, uspoređujući ga s Joseom Mourinhom. On je, navode, bio “poseban”, no nije im najbolje “sjela” brazilčeva usporedba trenerskog posla s premijerovim odgovornostima, pa su povukli neke usporedbe.

Tako se primjerice piše da u premijerove odgovornosti ulazi rješavanje naftne krize i borba kako smanjiti inflaciju, dok je Scolarijeva “odgovornost” utrošiti 200 milijuna funti Abramovičevog novca i naučiti engleski.

samo mi nije jasna jedna stvar. abramovičev "Gazprom" je glavni sponzor, takoreći vlasnik Zenita.

Ali nigdje se ne spominje Chelsea kao klub u kojem bi Aršavin mogao nastaviti karijeru.

Ne mogu shvatiti da će uz ovakve okolnosti, onog igračinu prepustiti nekom drugom klubu.
