Chelsea have been charged with failing to control their players in the 2-0 victory over Derby on Saturday, while Michael Essien's appeal against the red card he received has been rejected.

The Ghanaian midfielder was dismissed after lashing out at Kenny Miller in stoppage time, but had been hoping the decision would be overturned.

However, the FA has agreed with referee Andre Marriner's ruling and Essien must now serve a three-game ban with immediate effect.

The club has also been disciplined after a number of players, including England captain John Terry, confronted Marriner in the wake of Essien's sending off.

A Football Association statement read: "Chelsea FC have been charged for the behaviour of Chelsea players towards referee Andre Marriner during the match at Derby County on Saturday, 24 November.

"The club were charged with failing to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion following the sending-off of Michael Essien for violent conduct, and have until 12 December to respond.

"At a Regulatory Commission hearing today, Essien had a claim for wrongful dismissal rejected.

"He will therefore serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect."

Recimo i to da je Steve McClaren imao ugovor s FA-om u visini od 3.5 milijuna eura godišnje.

Inter midfielder Patrick Vieira has launched a scathing attack on the Three Lions. “There is not enough English talent.”

The Frenchman’s former club Arsenal have been one of the main examples used in the British media to bemoan the number of foreign players clogging up the Premier League, leading indirectly to England’s failure to reach Euro 2008.


“I have been watching and reading all the bad comments from the ex-players and they should be more careful what they say,” he told ‘The Sun’ newspaper.


“The people who blame foreigners are simply looking for easy excuses to hide their own shortcomings. They need to face up to their own responsibilities.


“If people look deep down inside they will see it’s not because there are too many foreigners, it’s because there is not enough English talent.”


Vieira will be at Euro 2008 after France qualified in second place behind Italy in Group B, despite losing twice to Scotland.


“As the captain of France I am deeply disappointed that England will not be at the finals next year. It will not be the same without them,” continued the Nerazzurri star.


“When you compete in a major tournament, you want to be up against the biggest teams. And England is one of the biggest in the world. But you have to look at yourselves for the answers rather than looking for an easy scapegoat.”


This week Inter confirmed their place in the Champions League knockouts and could pick Arsenal in the draw.


“If Inter have to go there in the Champions League, we’ll give it a go. We are in good shape and capable of achieving something special. But it would be nice to wait for the Final to face Arsenal.”

Argentinsko čudo: Lanus prvi puta prvak

U POSLJEDNJEM kolu argentinske Aperture "mali" Lanus iz Buenos Airesa osigurao je svoj prvi naslov argentinskog prvaka odigravši neriješeno 1:1 protiv Boce Juniors na Bomboneri.

Drugo je mjesto u prvom dijelu prvenstva pripalo još većem iznenađenju sezone, Tigreu, također klubu iz glavnog grada Argentine.

Lanusu je za naslov bio dovoljan bod, a za njega se pobrinuo glavni strijelac momčadi Jose Sand, postigavši vodeći pogodak u 38. minuti. Boca Juniors, igrajući s brojnim rezervama s obzirom na skori početak Svjetskog klupskog prvenstva, izjednačio je zahvaljujući Martinu Palermu u 67. minuti.

Drugoplasiranom Tigreu trebala je pobjeda u gostima kod Argentinos Juniorsa, kao i poraz Lanusa, ni nije se dogodio nijedan od priželjkivanih raspleta.

Na stadionu Diego Armando Maradona, Juniorsi su slavili s 1:0 pogotkom Pabla Barzole iz jedanaesterca u 57. minuti. Uspjeh Tigrova je potpuno neočekivan u konkurenciji Boce, Rivera i Estudiantesa, s obzirom da se klub tek vratio u prvu ligu nakon 27 godina.

U 19 utakmica prvog dijela sezone (Apertura) Lanus je osvojio 38, a Tigre 34 boda.

Istovremeno, Defensor je osvojio naslov prvaka Urugvaja nadjačavši Central Espanol s 2:1 golom Lamasa u 89. minuti utakmice predzadnjeg kola. Iza Defensora, ali bez mogućnosti da ga dostignu, nalaze se Danubio i Rampla Juniors.

Maradona disputes Kaka throne

Former Napoli and Argentina legend Diego Maradona has questioned the decision to award Kaka the Ballon d’Or.

The Brazilian ace was presented the prestigious award on Sunday and is expected to add FIFA’s World Player of the Year prize in Zurich on December 17.

Few in the football community doubt Kaka’s credentials after his inspirational role in Milan’s Champions League triumph last term, but Maradona doesn’t believe the Brasilia native was a worthy winner.

“I don’t think that it was quite the right choice,” the 47-year-old told journalists.

“In my opinion Lionel Messi is without a doubt the best, followed by Sergio Aguero and Juan Roman Riquelme, but also Wayne Rooney and Ronaldinho.”

Maradona made himself still more unpopular in Milan by dismissing the Diavolo’s chances of securing the Club World Cup in Japan later this month.

“Everyone is talking about Milan, but the Rossoneri are Kaka-dependent,” he roared. “I’m backing Boca.”

Chelsea winger Florent Malouda has branded English football as "brainless" and rated players' diets as awful.

The 27-year-old, who signed from Lyon for £13m in the summer, said: "Training sessions are terrifying. They are maximum intensity, and you go flat out.

"During actual matches, it is as though everybody's brains are switched off. People play by instinct, how they did when they first discovered football."

He is amazed players can eat "whatever you like, drink Coke or anything".


"It is a good job I have come over here at the age of 27 and so have not been following the same diet as the rest of the club's players," he added.

The France international has been out of action for a month with a knee injury but appears less than enthusiastic about returning for the busy Christmas fixture schedule.

He said: "I have been warned about the Christmas periods in English football. They sound terrible."

CHELSEA star Florent Malouda launched an astonishing attack on his own club — because he had to take a TAXI.


The former Lyon winger, 27, was furious Blues did not send a private jet to fly him back to London after he played for France.


Malouda said: “Chelsea isn’t like Lyon or Arsenal — they don’t send planes to pick up their players after international games.


“When we played Lithuania in Nantes on October 17, the Arsenal plane was full so I took a taxi to Paris — a four-hour drive.
“We got to the airport at 4.30am, took the first plane to London, slept for three hours then went to training.


“I couldn’t miss training if I wanted to play for Chelsea that weekend.


“The club doesn’t help you a lot — unless, I guess, if you are a star.


“I am sure when Andriy Shevchenko arrived here, everything was ready for him.”
