Die Gründung der DDR am 7. Oktober 1949 auf dem Gebiet der sowjetischen Besatzungszone einschließlich des sowjetischen Sektors von Berlin erfolgte vier Jahre nach dem Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges auf Betreiben der Sowjetunion, nachdem zuvor mit Unterstützung der drei West-Alliierten auf dem Gebiet ihrer Besatzungszonen („Trizone“) die Bundesrepublik Deutschland gegründet worden war.

Bis zum Inkrafttreten des Grundlagenvertrages 1973, in dem beide Vertragsstaaten Grundsatzfragen zu ihrer Koexistenz regelten, war die DDR durch die Staaten des Ostblocks, nicht aber durch das westliche Ausland anerkannt.

Nach der Wende 1989/90 und dem damit einhergehenden Ende des Sozialismus in der DDR beschloss die erstmals frei gewählte Volkskammer den Beitritt des Landes zur Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Mit der Deutschen Wiedervereinigung am 3. Oktober 1990 endete die Existenz der DDR. Istočna Nemačka јe bila članica Varšavskog pakta. Posle izbora, sјedinila se sa Saveznom Republikom Nemačkom 1990. godine.

Evo da nas malo podsjetim na to vrijeme u kojem smo mi bili nesvrstani između dva bloka kao neka koka.

Nisam bas siguran da ovdje ima ikoga ko se sjeca Hitlera,da bi ga se sjecao morao bi zivjeti u vrijeme kad i on ili prozivjeti dogadjaje vezane uz njega,a takvih vjerujem ovdje nema..ili se mozda varam

A sto se tice tvog DDR-a,po onome sto znam i o cemu sam informiran nemam bas lijepih i pozitivnih komentara na DDR. Svaka drzava u kojoj su rusi bili gazde nakon 2svr je bila u banani i krajnjem siromastvu. To se odnosi i na Madjarsku,Cehoslovacku,Poljsku, Balticke zemlje itd itd. Sta reci o zemlji u kojoj su tisuce ljudi izginule na Berlinskom zidu, pokusavajuci se domoci normalnog zivota i civilizacije,sta reci o zemlji u kojoj je carevao STASI (istocno njemacka ispostava Ruskog KGB-a) i gdje je svako svakoga spijunirao i kontrolirao. Tek sad se saznaju razmjeri tih spijuniranja kad su u javnost dani dokumenti STASI-ja. Sta reci o zemlji u kojoj je glavno prijevozno sredstvo bilo ovo:

East Germany's economy had a poor start in the aftermath of World War II's devastation. The Soviet Union demanded heavy reparation payments, and Lower Silesia, which contained coal mines, and Stettin, a prominent natural port, were given to Poland.

Like other East European socialist states, East Germany had a centrally planned economy (CPE), similar to the one in the former Soviet Union, in contrast to the market economies or mixed economies of most Western states. The DDR became a member of the COMECON trading block in 1950. The country tried to get into the jet airliner market with the Baade B-152 during the 1950's, but after initial problems they cancelled the project and bought the Soviet Tu-124 instead for the national airline Interflug, one example of how dominant the USSR was in the politics and economics of the country. The state established production targets and prices and allocated resources, codifying these decisions in a comprehensive plan or set of plans. The means of production were almost entirely state owned. In 1985, for example, state-owned enterprises or collectives earned 96.7 percent of total net national income. To secure constant prices for inhabitants, the state bore 80% of costs of basic supplies, from bread to housing. The per capita income in 1989 was an estimated $9,800 (approximately $16,000 in 2006 dollars), though the currency conversion used to create this figure is difficult to conduct. In 1976 average annual GDP growth was roughly 2.6%.[4]

Examples of products exported were cameras brands praktica, cars brands trabant, hunting rifles, sextants and watches.

The ultimate directing force in the economy, as in every aspect of the society, was the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (Sozialistische Einheitspartei Deutschlands--SED), particularly its top leadership. The party exercised its leadership role formally during the party congress, when it accepted the report of the general secretary, and when it adopted the draft plan for the upcoming five-year period.

The private sector of the economy was small but not entirely insignificant. In 1985 about 2.8 percent of the net national product came from private enterprises. The private sector included private farmers and gardeners; independent craftsmen, wholesalers, and retailers; and individuals employed in so-called free-lance activities (artists, writers, and others). Although self-employed, such individuals were strictly regulated; in some cases the tax rate exceeded 90 %. In 1985, for the first time in many years, the number of individuals working in the private sector increased slightly. According to East German statistics, in 1985 there were about 176,800 private entrepreneurs, an increase of about 500 over 1984. ili da vježbaju cik-cak trčanje izbjegavajući paljbu iz strojnica ili čak mogu vježbat skok u dalj skačući preko minskih polja
